Where the data come from
The US Department of Agriculture is required by law to publicly release summary sales data obtained from US exporters of many agricultural commodities. Announcements of large sales are issued under the Export Sales Reporting Program, and FAS publishes details on reporting requirements and marketing years on the program page.
What it means for a buyer
These announcements show how much soybeans the US is selling this season and where — a reference point for the world soybean market, where farmers in Ukraine and Kazakhstan also sell their crops. Anyone planning soybean sales or expanding soybean acreage for next season should watch these USDA announcements: they come out almost daily and show how much the US sells and where.
