Kazakhstan: 135,000 t of grain delivered under forward contracts

By October 19, Kazakhstan's farms had delivered 135,000 tonnes of new-crop grain to the Food Corporation — almost a third of the volume contracted under the 2026 forward purchase program for farm products. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported this on October 20. Wheat and barley under forward contracts must be delivered no later than November 1, 2026.
Key figures
- 135,000 t of grain delivered
- Almost a third of contracts
- Class 3 wheat — 89%
- Deadline — November 1
- Forward: 31.9 bn tenge
- Class 3: 92–115k ₸/t
What changed
Most of the deliveries came from three grain-growing regions. As of October 19, farmers in Kostanay region had shipped 75,000 tonnes of grain, North Kazakhstan 42,900 tonnes and Akmola 10,800 tonnes. Class 3 wheat makes up 89% of deliveries; farmers are also delivering class 4 and class 5 wheat and barley to the state reserves. Under the forward contracts, wheat and barley deliveries must be completed no later than November 1, 2026.
By the numbers
This year the national grain operator allocated 31.9 billion tenge (≈ $71 million) to forward purchases of farm products. At the end of September the Government set purchase prices for the 2026 grain crop: 92,000 to 115,000 tenge per tonne (≈ $204–255) for class 3 wheat depending on quality, unchanged from last year. Grain bought under forward contracts goes to renew the reserve stock and to the feed fund.
What it means for buyers
Forward purchases let a farmer get money for fieldwork in advance, in spring, and secure a sale for part of the future crop — in the autumn the farm settles in grain or oilseeds. According to the Government, the Food Corporation's purchase prices serve as a benchmark for the grain market. From the feed fund, which the Food Corporation has built up since 2022, livestock companies and poultry farms buy feed at a fixed price.
Background
In September the Government also extended the program compensating grain exporters' costs to the 2026–2027 marketing year and decided to refund VAT to grain traders. According to the Government, transport subsidies widened the map of buyers: Belgium, Poland, Portugal, Norway, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt bought Kazakh wheat for the first time.
